To Laurence Cromp Esq[ui]r[e] York Herald of Arms, greeting, 1705 June 1.

Legal document in which the Proprietors of the Province of Carolina appoint Cromp, then serving as York Herald, as "President of our Court of Honour and Principal Herald of our whole Province of Carolina by the name Carolina Herald." The document also list procedures to invest the noblemen of the province, known as Landgraves and Cassiques, with the appropriate insignia and crests; the margin of this document is illustrated with full-color insignia of the Order of Landraves and Cassiques: a sunburst medallion on a purple ribbon, a gold chain, a red cape and westcoat, and a crown above a sunburst design.
